About Your Tour
The day begins with an early morning flight from Maui, landing on Oahu, where you’ll be ready to explore the dramatic WWII history at Pearl Harbor. The haunting events of December 7, 1941, come to life as you learn about the surprise attack by Japanese forces on the island.
The USS Arizona battleship was tragically struck and sank within minutes, taking 1,177 seamen down with her. A 23-minute documentary featuring original archival footage allows you to understand the gravity of this day. After the film, we boarded a Navy vessel to cross the harbor to the USS Arizona Memorial, which is suspended over the sunken battleship—the final resting place of those brave men.
Stepping into the Memorial, I visited the Shrine Room, where the names and ranks of the fallen are inscribed in marble. Looking down into the harbor, I could see the oil drops—known as “The Black Tears of the Arizona”—still rising to the surface after nearly 80 years. It was a moving and sobering sight that left a lasting impact on my heart.
At the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, we explored the museum filled with historical artifacts, photos, and memorabilia from the attack. The Road to War and Attack galleries provided a comprehensive overview of the events that led to this pivotal moment in history. Don’t forget to visit the bookstore for WWII memorabilia, books, and souvenirs to take home as a reminder of your experience.
After our time at Pearl Harbor, we ventured through Historic Downtown Honolulu, where we spotlighted famous architectural landmarks that reflect Hawaii’s royal past. We saw Iolani Palace, built by Hawaii’s last reigning king, and Kawaiahao Church, a significant place of worship for the Hawaiian monarchy. The statue of King Kamehameha the Great is a must-see, representing the unification of the Hawaiian Islands under his rule in 1810.
