The tour starts with a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial, the final resting place of over 1,100 sailors and Marines who were killed during the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. Here, you’ll learn about the events that led to the U.S. involvement in World War II. A short documentary film precedes your visit, giving insight into the attack and its aftermath.
2. Bowfin Submarine
Next, explore the Bowfin Submarine, also known as the “Pearl Harbor Avenger.” The Bowfin played a key role in the Pacific theater during World War II, sinking enemy vessels. Visitors can go inside the submarine to get a feel for what life was like for the crew during wartime missions.
3. USS Missouri Battleship
The tour then takes you to the Battleship Missouri, where the Japanese formally surrendered, bringing an end to World War II. You’ll walk through the decks of this iconic vessel, exploring its history and significance. This ship not only represents the end of the war but also serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during the conflict.
4. Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum
At the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, you’ll explore exhibits housed in original WWII-era hangars. These exhibits highlight the role of aviation in the war, featuring restored aircraft and historical documents. The museum offers a comprehensive look into the events leading up to and following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
5. Pearl Harbor Visitor Center
Before you depart Pearl Harbor, you’ll have time to visit the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, where more in-depth exhibits cover the history of the attack and its impact on the world. You can watch actual film footage of the attack and view numerous historical artifacts.
6. Downtown Honolulu Sights
On your way back to the airport, the tour will pass by some of Honolulu’s most famous landmarks, including the Iolani Palace, the King Kamehameha Statue, and the Hawai’i State Capitol. These stops provide a glimpse into Hawaii’s rich historical and political heritage.
